“The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart.”
I am a subscriber to the Moment of Happiness daily emails – a result of the book, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. These emails are composed of a quote that typically focuses on happiness or its counterpart, unhappiness.
Sometimes I like the quotes, sometimes I hate, sometimes I love. Yesterday’s quote – the title of this post – falls into my love category.
The quote, said by none other than Buddha, reminds us that the power lies within us, not in some outside ethereal being. It reminds us that we have the control to make the choices that will influence our future, no one else.
This quote relates well to any and all aspects of life: exercise, diet, school, career, family, etc. Whether or not we get out for a walk is not determined by anyone else but you. Whether or not you make a healthful dinner versus pick up a more convenient fast-food entree is determined by you. Whether or not you spend time with your family or at work is up to you (this is a tricky one, I know).
While making these choices can be difficult and oftentimes anxiety-provoking, it is of utmost important that we remind ourselves of our power. That, “the way is in [our] heart”. That we are in control of the path we take.
